reserve your seats

The buzz word of this week is Women's bill..Yes, the passing of the Women's Reservation Bill which gives a reservation of 33 percentage to the zens is really something that deserves an applause.. but just thinking about the term reservation sends a certain pang through my mind.
Why 'RESERVATION'??? man and woman are two sides of the same coin-humankind. And we have never heard of anything like "a bill was passed for the RESERVATION of MEN to the Parliament".. then doesn't this particular issue of reservation for women sound gross to our ears?? For me..it does.
The political scenario maybe something like the number of men candidates are always exceeding in elections and hence there has been this need of reservation for women- agreed. But even then why this reservation of just 33%?? yes, the 25% does go to the Scheduled caste and tribe candidates, but even then has anyone given a thought that from that 25%, equal share should be given to both s/he?? i dont think so..
Anyway the present situation is reflected in the statistics that said "In the May 2004 general election, 539 candidates were elected to the 14th Lok Sabha. Only 44 of them are women." Maybe the RESERVATION would bring in some change.. who would hold the answer to that??
